More Flexible Licensing, Better Networking Solutions

Secure, powerful connectivity has never been so simple. Since 2006, Meraki has provided its customers with comprehensive networking solutions using the latest information technology. To further improve customer experience, Cisco Meraki now offers two types of licensing models. New and existing customers can now avail of either a per-device licensing (PDL) model or co-termination licensing model (co-term). The new licensing schemes offer clients better licensing flexibility with its new licensing plans.

Co-Term Licensing

All Cisco Meraki customer licenses have a default co-term licensing model with the per-device as an opt-into option. The co-term licensing is beneficial for businesses that want things simple It coordinates licenses across all different networks and sites within your organization. This is especially useful when managing multiple sites or when expanding the Meraki infrastructure in your organization. With co-term license, the system automatically calculates the different licenses to come up with the weighted average and a single expiration date for all Meraki devices. This saves up time and makes managing licenses much simpler because the licenses are recalculated automatically with each additional license and hardware claimed. As usual, Meraki’s intuitive system allows users to check their license expiration dates on their dashboard for a simplified, user-friendly experience.

Per-Device Licensing

The new PDL model offers a variety of new and novel features that provides greater flexibility and customization. It allows users to assign a license directly to each device or network making it possible to have more than one expiration date on each device, network, or organization. Per-device licensing allows businesses to coordinate licensing across different sites or organizations to suit their budgeting needs. It allows individual device shutdown, allowing other networks or devices to continue running when a license expires.

Another new feature of the PDL model allows users to move licenses and devices between organizations without the need to call Meraki support. The new feature is available through the dashboard and APIs. Moreover, PDLs allow users to partially renew their licenses by renewing the licenses they want to renew individually or as a subset to the entire group.

90 Day License Activation

Meraki customers with a per-device license are able to delay the activation of their license for up to 90 days after purchasing the license. The license will only start to burn after it has been activated on a device or 90 days since the licensed was purchased.

New Features

Additional feature licenses are available as device add-on options for users with the per-device license. Users could enable additional functionality on Meraki hardware devices. Meraki Insight, Meraki MV Cloud Archive, Meraki MV Sense, and Meraki MR Advanced Upgrade are all available for users who opt for the PDL model. Each of the add-ons can be purchased individually for each device, network, or purchased for all devices in the entire network depending on the needs of the user.

Short-term Licenses

Users with the PDL model who want to adjust the expiration date of their current license can now purchase a 1-day license for their existing licenses. If a customer has a single device and is purchasing a new device, they can also purchase 1-day licenses to keep the same expiration date of the existing devices. Existing customers, can purchase 30 of these 1-day licenses and extend their device license for up to 30 days.

30 Day Grace Period

Meraki devices have a 30-day grace period for license reactivation after the license expires. This allows users to ensure continuity and avoid service interruptions when a license expires. Meraki devices will shut down after the 30 days lapses if the license is not reactivated. Should the customer reactivates the license within the 30-day period, the days used within the grace period would be deducted from the new license.
